Theory book ‘Line Games’
Just incase anyone was looking for a theory book, I am working Line Games by Randy Vincent. He is an excellent player and teacher - Julian Lage was a former student.
It’s certainly focussed towards Jazz and it’s helps if you know your modes for major and melodic minor to get the most out of it, but not essential.
It is in standard notation and no tabs, which is helpful as the lines are meant to be played anywhere across the fretboard and tab often makes me lazy and never try alternate placements. It’s all single line stuff so even if you are slow reader like me it’s not too challenging.
Main focus is using hexatonic cells for creating lines. He quotes lots of transcribed Joe Pass and Pat Martino lines that fall into the subject and there are literally hundreds of phrases and lines to use.
Only about half way thro but it think it’s brilliantly written and I can’t think of £25 that has made a better impact on my playing. Highly recommended

Thanks @joeW I will look into this
I should get myself something like this - will force me to get comfortable with notation again & translate that to the fretboard. 20 odd years of playing & I still need to count frets to work out notes :#
Am in the same situation - in a few weeks I’d made a lot of progress.Revolutions said:I should get myself something like this - will force me to get comfortable with notation again & translate that to the fretboard. 20 odd years of playing & I still need to count frets to work out notes :#
