I’m struggling between flu recovery and busy work and a bit of a depressive funk.
I will see what I can do tonight…
Thank you - I promise I'll stop spamming you with emails now (until the Q challenge)flying_pie said:Playlist updated with @fnpt and @thecolourbox
Hope you do manage to do something, but more importantly that you feel better in body and mind soon mate. You need to join us again in the adhd over-productive cover challenge spammers club :)stickyfiddle said:I’m struggling between flu recovery and busy work and a bit of a depressive funk.I will see what I can do tonight…
Thanks dude. I have a couple of good-in-theory ideas in mind, neither are straightforward. Will see if I'm awake enough tonight to bash out at least a bit of one of them and see if it has legsthecolourbox said:Hope you do manage to do something, but more importantly that you feel better in body and mind soon mate. Just came into this thread and thought, pull me finger out I'll have a do at that. Then I saw that there is 13 hours left! Maybe I will try the next one!!!
In the early days of the composition challenge (I think it was the drone themed challenge back when they had themes), I decided to enter 6 hours before the deadline and managed to write, record and submit a song in that time. Go for it!Snap said:Just came into this thread and thought, pull me finger out I'll have a do at that. Then I saw that there is 13 hours left! Maybe I will try the next one!!!
I make it 36 hours, roughly! That's enough time to do at least 2 if you get a shift on :DSnap said:Just came into this thread and thought, pull me finger out I'll have a do at that. Then I saw that there is 13 hours left! Maybe I will try the next one!!!
I wasn't sure about sending in yet another one, but why not.
This is my original version of Purple Rain, which I then shelved for my Byrds version. It's a kind of Hank Williams style version. I remember reading Prince say it started out as a country song, so that was the inspiration. A bit of lap steel, little solo on the Les Paul. I also had an internal chuckle at making the intro and outro both as abrupt as possible, in contrast with the original. I also stuck a noisy tape emulation plugin on top to give it that old timey feel.
As an aside, I had a check and I started working on Pride of Cucamonga on 27th October 2023 - that's when I split the stems and started looking at transcribing the drums. That's how I'm able to get 4 entries done for a single letter

I do enjoy hearing other people's workflows and methods compared to my own. My brain is weird but also I am plagued with not having much time to myself - i work full time, I have a side hustle playing piano music at weddings which involves me learning and arranging all kinds of stuff i don't know, and have a house to run as my wife works longer hours than me in her day job. So invariably my recordings submitted here and in the composition one are usually done on either a Tuesday or Wednesday (when wife works in the office), in a few hours sometimes or maybe a few hours for a couple of days running. But then as with my piano learning and practising, I do a fair amount of it in my head before I touch an instrument or boot up the DAW. So I suppose I know what I want to do before I start so it's just a case of getting it down.
I'd never be able to start something in October and keep going with it until the following October. That said, my recordings and performance quality in my entries probably reflect that...

Good point!! Still never got the time though, gah. I love the song too. Great chord structure and vocals.stickyfiddle said:I make it 36 hours, roughly! This one involves me singing in French so I apologise if it's a bit Allo Allo. It's a pretty much straight transcription cover of a song by French electro pop singer Christine and the Queens (now recently known as Rahim Redcar I believe). Check out their performance of Tilted on Jools Holland via Youtube, awesome stuff. Paradis Perdus means Paradise Lost I think, the chorus is kind of lifted from a Kanye West song then the french bits added by Christine & the Queens.
All instruments are virtual, i didn't play a note on this one - I just listened and transcribed the various parts of the loops and then copied and pasted as required etc. Vocals are obviously me, my french isn't great so I wrote it down phonetically and just hoped for the best. The translation of the lyrics is mostly nonsense anyway so I don't think it matters too much.
(EDIT: having listened to the playlist so far, my Party of Special Things track is soo quiet and bit clippy on the vocals, so I'll send through a better mix this evening to replace if possible? Thanks)
