What's the policy on swearing ?

I fucking love swearing.  It's very cathartic.

I see various swear words quite often on here but I've never known if there was a policy here regarding how often you can swear or what words you can use.

At the end of the day, they are just words and unless they're used in a hostile or insulting manner what harm do they cause ?  In that instance, it's the intent behind the statement that's the problem, not the arrangement of letters that make up particular words.

If there is a policy, it's no good being a vague "use your discretion" thing because that's completely subjective.  One man's 'flip' is another man's 'smeg head'.

The policy is that we don’t define a numerical limit, nor a list of proscribed words, because some idiot will immediately try to push the envelope.

Swearing for the sake of it, especially to get attention, generally breaks rule 1. Remember that frequent posters on this  forum, the ones who usually respond to threads, aren’t representative of the general readership.

I'm not sure anyone here has a fair chance in a swearing contest with Lady BMcH. She is very creative.

You’re married.  Stop thinking about other people’s wives.

The best swearing ive seen/heard is written on a toilet wall in 1990 at the university of central lancashire..
"liquid goblin says.. Fuck, cunt, bugger , bugger , arse".
I think that sums up my views on the subject adequately.
Swearing is just a tool in the box, as long as it’s used to convey the required emotion it’s all good.

Typing in a swear word as an adjective looks absolutely ridiculous, pointless and immature.

When typing, swear words should be used as a noun only.

I'm not generally bothered by swearing. It's best when it is in context, funny adds to the what is being said. I suppose it is a good thing that for it to appear on here it means someone has to go to the effort to type it. That will naturally reduce the frequency. It's not like talking to someone in real life who can't get a sentence out with swearing all over it.

Personally, I always liked the vent thread's original title (shit that boils your piss). It had a certain gravitas. But, I also understand why it was better to change it.

It's adverbs for me.

Hearing someone say "shittily" puts my teeth on edge.

I suspect the policy on swearing is as lenient on the policy as pointless attention-seeking troll posts from vexatious posters.
I don't think swearing is a big problem on this forum because it's fairly localised to only a handful of topics:

Essex Recording Studio
Oasis tickets
Gallagher brothers (or just Liam?)
Farage
Trump
Ten Hag
Chappers

I resent that, I can swear on any topic!
Essex Recording Studio
Oasis tickets
Gallagher brothers (or just Liam?)
Chappers
Ban this sick filth
For some reason whenever I swear on here I always use a f*cking asterisk. I feel it adds that touch of social etiquette without robbing it of its emphasis. Or some shite like that…
