RIP Paul Di'Anno

I only really know of him from early Maiden although I was aware that he had done projects since. Very much the spirit of the NWOBHM and probably more to my taste than where the band went later. And Paul familiar to many Lucozade drinkers of course.
And 66 blimey that's too young to go. Sad news, RIP.

I shall blast those first two albums in his memory. RIP, Paul.
Sad news, a key player in the story of metal.
Good plan for some evening listening!Jonathangus said:I shall blast those first two albums in his memory. RIP, Paul.
Those first 2 albums meant quite something to me and my school mates starting out as budding guitarists and they'll be played tonight.
I thought he was in the best incarnation of Maiden and saw them back in the early days and they were terrific and he had such energy and attitude.
A troubled soul, especially with his health issues which the Maiden lads stepped up and assisted with. It was also heard that he was someone you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side o,f but that's no age.
R.I.P and Eddie's lost a mate.

Sad news. I saw him with Maiden supporting Judas Priest around 1980 when Dennis Stratton and Clive Burr were in the band. Hard to believe that was 44 years ago.
I'm not entirely surprised, I know he'd had major health issues and although he went abroad for treatment a few years ago it didn't seem to have made much difference to his mobility.
I'm not one of those who think Iron Maiden peaked with their first two albums, but I still like those records very much. along with what came later. Good suggestion to listen to them this evening.
RIP.

Those first two Maiden albums are as good as metal gets.
RIP.
Not a Maiden fan by any means, but I admire them and this is sad news indeed.
RIP PDA.
RIP PDA.
I liked Iron Maiden better than Killers, but for me they're the best albums, both so raw and dynamic. Maiden became a different 'beast' after that obviously.
RIP

The first album was on heavy rotation for me at one point in life. RIP.
I've just listened to Iron Maiden and now I'm on Killers. Fucking hell, they do still sound good. Sometimes I'll listen to albums by their contemporaries from that period and they can sound a bit creaky.Philly_Q said:I'm not one of those who think Iron Maiden peaked with their first two albums, but I still like those records very much. along with what came later. I loved his vocals on Iron Maiden and Charlotte the Harlot. I remember comparing the versions on the album with live ones and a later B side with Bruce. It's not the maiden I was familiae with but it gave me a good insight into the NWOBHM beginnings of the band. It became something else really after 83. RIP Paul.
Oh no :( another lovely bloke and hero gone. :( :(
I wonder why they never did any shows with him later in, I am sure they would have been popular
I think there wasn't much of a continuing relationship. Bruce and Paul met for the first time ever in July 2024:Jono111 said:I wonder why they never did any shows with him later in, I am sure they would have been popular

Not altogether surprising news but very sad all the same.
If you ever get the chance, go and seek out the German Tv Beatclub performance on YouTube. It’s bloody brilliant. Very occasionally the whole thing (about an hour) gets uploaded but is soon taken down, but there’s still the odd song here and there.
Slow down Clive… RIP him and Paul.
RIP I love prowler ,running free & phantom on that first album
Just heard about this. RIP. I always find myself coming back to those first two albums, especially killers, more than the others.
Iron Maiden frontman for the first 2 albums.
