Older tech mfx - what are you using that's still good?

Actually that reminds me, I'd love to get my hands on the Atomic AmpliFirebox, a Rabea demo impressed me.NelsonP said:Atomic Amplifire. I must be pretty much the only one left
The original one not the MK2.

They are pretty decent, but like most modellers they lack the dynamics of a good valve amp. But for convenience, playing at home volume or going direct they are pretty hard to beatduotone said:Actually that reminds me, I'd love to get my hands on the Atomic AmpliFirebox, a Rabea demo impressed me.NelsonP said:Atomic Amplifire. I miss some of the sounds I remember getting from a Boss ME-30. They weren't great as in being accurate reproductions of classic gear or whatever, but some of them sounded really good in their own right.
Maybe not quite old enough for this thread, but I rediscovered my orignal Yamaha THR10, upgraded the Firmware, and absolutely loving it.
I'm getting far more easy consistent great sounds than what I got after many failed attempts at IR's! Just switch on and play

Mpxg2 - with the foot controller.
Awesome sounding box and can be had for peanuts.

I still have my Pod 2 in my rack alongside a Helix, along with a TC Gmajor 2 that sits between the Helix and power amp via spdif. It does something intangible to the sound that's pleasing to my ear.

Didn't realise that was possible. I have an old THR10C and you have me wondering whether it's worth trying to update. A couple of the preset buttons aren't working but it seems ok otherwise.
I’ve had an early 80s Yamaha D1500 digital delay in my Boogie rig that I’ve used virtually ever day since new. First rack fx unit with midi I believe. 16 memory slots! Gigged it for years and now studio based.,, was using it today.

Got a really nice warm tone and the modulation does great chorus and flanger sounds.

I still drag out my Korg Pandora now and then.
I had a Pignose guitar and modified the headphone socket to be an fx insert between the pickup and amp. A pub busking gem of a 'rig' .
Guitar has sadly long gone.

Contrary-wise, I don't miss my SGX 2000 Express.
Absolute pig to programme - the drives were analogue, but everything else was through a two-line LCD and a rotary encoder. Like painting your house through the letterbox. It sounded OK, and had a good spread of effects, but presets that had different effect blocks were really slow to switch.
Also the solid state drives were all much better than the valve ones.

Just watching the Beato interview with David Gilmour and he still records some stuff with a Zoom 9030.
Another GSP 1101 holdout here. IMHO still sounds great (with C63 firmware). I use it in 4CM with an ironheart Studio 15 and it does pretty much everything I need. I tend to use the Laney pre-amp for 80% of my sounds but I reckon most people can't tell when I'm using the GSP as an amp modeler instead.
I've seen a couple of Digitech RP1000s on professional stages recently...although being used by bass players, weirdly. AFAIK it's the same modelling as the GSP1101 but just one processor, not two, so you don't get the completely gapless patch switching of the rack unit. Sounds great though.
I’m still gigging my Yamaha dg80. The Yamaha magic stomp still sounds great, too.
I'm still using a Boss GT-6 and have an ME-50 kicking around. I use the GT-6 for drives and wah/volume in front of the amp. It also has a pretty decent speaker emulated headphone output which is nice for silent practice at night etc...
About 15 years ago, I was in a two guitar band where the other guitarist used a Mesa Road King half stack. It sounded great and I was struggling to keep up with him tbh. I had just got a gsp1101 and bought a Mesa 2:90 power amp from a mate which put my sound on a more level pegging. My band mate liked the gsp’s effects so bought an RP1000. He ended up using it into the Road King’s power amp with the Recto amp model as he felt it sounded as good as the amp and was easier to control.gearaddict said:I've seen a couple of Digitech RP1000s on professional stages recently...although being used by bass players, weirdly. I would still love to play a Digitech 2120 Artist Valve Guitar System. I think @Clarky was a big fan & regular user of them.
