GLWTS posts should be banned

GLWTP.
(Good luck with the post)
Seems a bit harsh.
- They don't add nothing, they add a bump.
- I think the bumps are probably deserved, in the eyes of the GLWTS-er.
- Although life is short, I think we can all afford to waste a few clicks.
- There's nothing anyone else can do about you reading them with a condescending voice in your head.
- See first point above.
One of my favourite things is sharing the love for cool stuff that people are selling.
What’s worse is the almost aggressive “come on someone buy this!!” orders from someone who ironically doesn’t wish to buy it.
Or are they just a way of patting someone on the back and saying ‘nice bit of gear that mate, hope you don’t lose too much on it’? A bit of casual, conversational-community -we always liken this place to a local pub and I’d say much of it is this communal aspect.
Agreed! That's how I have always interpreted them.Teyeplayer said:Or are they just a way of patting someone on the back and saying ‘nice bit of gear that mate, hope you don’t lose too much on it’? No. Positive commentary in the classifieds is fine, because then popular items rise to the top.
I see it as a minor helping hand to an item that you think is very worthwhile but you maybe have already, or can't afford.
Plus I have a scheme going where fretboarders give me a backhander to bump threads

Sometimes I comment on a for sale post but don't want to buy it (usually because it's a particularly outstanding bit of kit, or because I have one and/or know something about it). Putting GLWTS at the end seems a kind of polite way of saying 'sorry to interject and I wish you well'. Probably you'll encounter a lot more on the Internet that could do with banning before this.
I'll weigh in to add that I view the fraternal bumps as an endorsement of sorts, either of the item or the seller. To me, GLWTS indicates that the commenter has nice things to say but no interest in buying the item themselves. That could be for a variety of reasons - duplication, affordability, space etc.
FWIW I have had a couple of guitars from the forum and they have been in top notch condition, well described and responsibiy packaged. They are easily some of the nicest guitars I have - so it's not like endorsing sales from here has any nefarious objective.
Not heard it called "a backhander" before.axisus said:fretboarders give me a backhander to bump threads
"Always read them with a condescending voice in my head".
I'd consider speaking to a head doctor about these mean voices instead of making a new thread.

If the gentle innocence of GLWTS posts make you feel the above sentiments, I would recommend giving P&E a very wide berth.
Nonsense fret-seeking thread.
I see it as letting a mate know that there is a cool bit of kit for sale and helping the seller out in some small way
Well, it worked for @BlueStrat. :)TheMarlin said:Nonsense fret-seeking thread.

late to this one. On one hand I can see where the OP is coming from, on the other (and I can't stress this enough) this place isn't a market place, set up with the sole or main purpose of selling stuff with a bit of a community tacked on. This place was set up with the main and overwhelming purpose being a community of (more or less) likeminded souls to come together and talk toot. The marketplace really was set up as a by product of the GAS and gear churn this hobby demands. It could be that the OP has lost sight of that, however one suspects any for sale threads he now posts are gonna be spammed with GLWS.
Would it help if every now and then someone came out with a I Hope Your Gibson Doesn't Sell until February WAHAHAHHA post?
These GLWTS posts are always preceded by compliments and praises. If they're so nice they wouldn't need luck to sell.
They should really say "That's a shit guitar mate. GLWTS".

Bahahaha love this but I also love the GLWTS posts.
Sometimes the person saying GLWTS has owned the same guitar model and points out why they think it’s a good deal. Surely that helps the seller?

Clouds. Shout.
Let me know the next time you list something and I’ll be happy to oblige :)Heartfeltdawn said:

I am OP. I still think my point is somewhat justified but equally who cares?
Anyway GLWTS.
Anyway GLWTS.
OP. Have you anything better to be worrying about ?
I don’t have an issue with “GLWTS” comments.
Bumping a for sale thread with the comment “sold” instead of just editing the title though..
