Advice sought. Loss of high end in simple switch

Embarrassing . Iv3 made a v simple pad switch to switch guitar from amp to Mac interfacec
 it’s made both signal paths v. Muddy

being cheap I wired from some ( old) studio spares signal cable and single strand bits 

what have I done wrong ( apart from being* rubbish ( at soldering ) it’s not noisy, just bassy/ dull

Used shielded cable inside a metal enclosure - totally unnecessary.

The secondary thing is that you've probably not stripped the semi-conducting shield layer of the shielded cable back far enough, and it's touching the solder at the terminals - the symptom of that is always a very dull signal, usually with some loss of volume - but I wouldn't bother trying to re-do it to fix that, just get rid of all the shielded cable and rewire it with plain.

Thank you, I didn’t know what to do with the black shield layer, and yes , about 3/4 db of signal drop too
never new about that

Don’t feel bad about not knowing, it’s easily the most common mistake when working with shielded cable and you’ve never come across it before. Been there, done that… it baffled me at first too.
