Advice sought. Loss of high end in simple switch

Used shielded cable inside a metal enclosure - totally unnecessary.jakeolly said:

The secondary thing is that you've probably not stripped the semi-conducting shield layer of the shielded cable back far enough, and it's touching the solder at the terminals - the symptom of that is always a very dull signal, usually with some loss of volume - but I wouldn't bother trying to re-do it to fix that, just get rid of all the shielded cable and rewire it with plain.
Thank you, I didn’t know what to do with the black shield layer, and yes , about 3/4 db of signal drop too
never new about that
thanks mate, much appreciated
there goes my Saturday morning :)

Don’t feel bad about not knowing, it’s easily the most common mistake when working with shielded cable and you’ve never come across it before. Been there, done that… it baffled me at first too.
it’s made both signal paths v. Muddy
being cheap I wired from some ( old) studio spares signal cable and single strand bits
what have I done wrong ( apart from being* rubbish ( at soldering ) it’s not noisy, just bassy/ dull
