Poopot's Cover Challenge #29 - P - Voting
Comments
Been working away this week with limited internets ... so was suprised to come back 4 days in and see no one had voted on this! Madness. Anyway I've had a lunchbreak back at home today and listened to the 13 tracks that are not mine (I promise I'm not doing 4 tracks again, it was an experiment to see if I could and keep the quality up. It was too much work!).
Lots going on this time around, lots of interesting takes and it's made it difficult to pick 3 and pop in any order. Going with
5 - @IMC1980 : Plush - I know it's a bit of a broken record at this point but it's the high polish and the fact that it sounds like Velvet Revolver playing tribute to their old front man. Weirdly hit me in the feels.
3 - @Habanero : Psycho Girl - Anyone covering Busted in public deserves respect :) One of your best covers to date man, sounded to me like it was an Ash track from the mid nineties, maybe off their first or second album. Took me back in a way I like rather than the usual horrible flashbacks!
1 - @flying_pie : Psychosocial - Really this deserves more but the rules is the rules, sounds like Depeche Mode teamed up with Corey Taylor and Pete Steele to sing with the angriest robot alive on keys. Particularly enjoyed the collapse at 2:30 and descent in to synth "djent". Fab work.
Got to throw in some honorable mentions, @idiotwind for multiple Prince takes and the least peaceful of all easy feelings! @mrkb for a splendid recreation and authentic snarl of the Pistol boys.
If we were just giving each track a mark out of 5 rather than choosing the top three there would have been a lot of 5s this round.

Is this the most entries ever, and I thought we'd got 2 weeks to vote!
5 pts : @Bezzer (PuppeT) I had no idea what this was, and it took me 10 minutes to find the original. I would have placed your Plush too, but decided to spread the love.
3 pts : @thecolourbox (POSTTD) Another tune I didn't know, but made me think of Lenny Kravitz
1 pt : @fnpt (PAS) Did know this one, and liked your vocal and general production
Really good standard generally, but a special mention for @mrkb for Pretty Vacant. I still remember my mum having to go into our local record shop to get me that album on cassette.
I need to have a good listen to these in order to try and rank them for a top three.
I must admit I'm surprised to have any points for the Captain Beefheart/White Stripes song, it was fun but I didn't expect anybody to like it

Well thank you, I'm kinda glad you went for Puppet, I'm hoping I have introduced you to your new favourite hyperpop legend :)Habanero said:(PuppeT) I had no idea what this was, and it took me 10 minutes to find the original. I would have placed your Plush too, but decided to spread the love.
Been busy with work over the last few days. I have listened to the playlist whilst working today and my votes go to:
5 points @Bezzer (Puppet) - This is some your finest work, impeccable technical execution, brilliant nu-metal take on the original (complete with 00's DJ scratching) and fantastically depraved subject matter. Amazing!
3 points - @mrkb - I am a sucker for a scrappy punk cover and this one ticks all the boxes, very "live" feel to the track and I liked the rolled "r's".
1 point - @fnpt (Passenger) - Nice straight cover of a classic, also brought back memories of some late night TV show from the 90s.
Well done to everyone else, loads of good stuff in the playlist.

Great entries as usual.
My votes:
1. @mrkb Really enjoyed it and, as mentioned, the rolled R's really did it for me;
2- @Bezzer If I listened to this in the radio I would think this was a professional production from a band heavily influenced by the Cure. Excellent;
3- @Habanero Didn't know the original, nice piano parts, enjoyed that.
I'll go for:
5pts - @fnpt (People Are Strange)
3pts - @mrkb
1pt - @Habanero

3pts - @mrkb
1pt - @Habanero
What an absolutely amazing playlist. I reckon that's one of, if not the best one. My initial shortlist ended up as around 10 songs but as there can only be 3 it'll have to be:
5 points @IMC1980 - who'd have thought an up tempo rock take on a grunge songs would work so well.? Also great to hear you taking an edgier solo. Really great job
3 points @Bezzer - all 4 tracks were great but puppet is a truly fabulous work of twisted genius
1 point @mrkb - perfectly punk
Honourable mentions to absolutely everyone else
