Sad news.  I had wondered about his health a few times over the years, since he vanished from our TV screens.  77's not even all that old.

Growing up in Swansea, it was big local news that someone from Llanelli won the World Snooker Championship in 1979.  If there was any TV coverage in those days, I certainly didn't see it.  And then Steve Davis came along and suddenly it was hugely popular.

RIP.

Really sad to here this. Great player and by all accounts a thoroughly nice chap.

The 79 world championship is the first I can remember. I pestered my parents and got a 6×3 table for Christmas. I've been a snooker fan ever since.

RIP

I was a big fan of snooker back in the day, I used to watch it a lot with my mum! I remember Terry coming out of nowhere and winning the World title. It was a lovely moment, he was so endearing, this soft spoken Welsh chap who seemed constantly surprised every time he won. Just a nice, regular normal guy who was very good at snooker.

After his playing career he was a very accomplished coach too.

So many of the top players used to talk about how he had been instrumental in their success.

I remember one year at the world championship, he was the coach of both finalists and they showed him giving a last minute pep talk to both players.

RIP Terry -
Terry winning the World Championship at his first attempt was the first time I became aware of snooker.  Been a fan ever since.

RIP to one of the game's gentlemen.

I too am really sad to hear this.  He always came over as a really decent guy, and was a fixture on our TV screens when snooker was king in the late 70s/early 80s.  Funny how sports come in and go out of fashion - my Dad and I used to be riveted to the World championship every year.

RIP Terry.

I had one of his signature cues you could get from Argos back in the 90s. He seemed like a nice guy and I always enjoyed watching him play as a kid. RIP Terry.

I remember when they interviewed him just after the final frame. He looked dumbstruck and his first words to the interviewer were "I've won, you know".
