Amp not working unless there’s something in the fx loop
What could that be? If there’s nothing in the fx loop the amp is really really quiet. You can still hear something but not much. It’s an Orange TH30 and the fx loop is valve driven, so would a dead valve cause that? Thanks!

It will be the switch in the return jack which connects to the send when there's nothing in the loop. This is a common problem on amps with FX loops when the loop is not often used - a bit of oxidation on the jack contacts and it stops working unless there's a cable in the loop.
Try squirting some contact cleaner spray into the jack and plugging/unplugging a cable a few times. If that doesn't fix it, you'll need to take the amp apart and clean it manually from the inside.

Yep I've got this problem on my Marshall as well. I've just learned to live with it. Contact spray only fixed mine temporarily so I've got a patch cable in the fx loop permanently now.
Awesome - I’ll give that a try. Thanks!ICBM said:It will be the switch in the return jack which connects to the send when there's nothing in the loop. It worked - fully operational again. Thanks!
