Wow, I am genuinely shocked.

I thought perhaps they'd call it a day if any of the current lineup decided they couldn't carry on, but this doesn't sound like it.  And after all they have touring commitments next year.  I see it's the last show for five or six months so I guess the timing makes sense.

Not wishing to be too jingoistic, but somebody British, hopefully.

No announcement yet, other than to say they’ve already got their man.

Unique drummer, one of the best as he had some swing to his playing. Let's hope they don't pick some bone head like Bozzio or similar.

Bordin, Matt Cameron and Chamberlin could do it well.

Mike Mangini :)
Dave Grohl, obviously.
TBH, I had a feeling this might be his last tour.  He's 72, he's had a stroke and he's been having to simplify his parts for a while now.

Last time I saw them was Download in 2021, and they were genuinely as good as I'd ever seen them.  Thanks, Nicko, and I'll just leave this here...

Aaargh...I never managed to see them live...I've no excuses!

42 years: what a shift ;)

Ah, gutted. But understandable. Glad I got to see them a number of times over the last 20 years.

I’m almost certain I won’t bother seeing them after next year’s anniversary tour.

They need Chappers.

I thought they where going to call it a day when Bruce took a break, unlike Bruce though, Nico, while one of the best drummers in the world, is easier to replace than Bruce.  They won't be the same without Nico, but they won't be as terrible as they where without Bruce.

A really good drummer, but his body has told him to call time.

There's a rumour going round (and it's only that) that Dave Lombardo is in and Adrian Smith has quit.

I don't think that'll be correct.

I’d say it’s 100% not going to be Lombardo, but he’s definitely closer to Nicko’s sound and feel than a gazillion modern Metal drummers, with their clicky bass drums and metronomically precise playing.

They could get Lars Ulrich in for all I care, but if this happens, I’ll be livid.

Lombardo's in about 10 different bands, it would fall apart in no time.

Just having a quick snoop around, many suggesting Harris' nephew or McBrain's son.

Stoopid rumours!

Maiden have just announced their new drummer is Simon Dawson, who plays with Steve Harris in British Lion.

I’m glad it’s not some big name drummer but someone they have history with and know can do the job.

If Dawson were to be the last Maiden drummer, how long do you reckon his tenure will be? Clearly not going to match Nicko’s 42 year stint!
Do you think Maiden have another 10 years in them?

My thoughts exactly! I wish I'd seen them live, but they got to big, I don't like stadium gigs.

Love Nicko, such a genuinely lovely guy, and I LOVE the fact that in his spare time he plays in an Iron Maiden covers band! How insane is that!?!?!

LEGEND!!!!!!
They've missed a trick, I feel.  After all, one individual has been front and centre at every Maiden show for years, and will have been able to study Nicko's playing first hand...

Bruce commented at last night’s show that Nicko was stepping back from playing live but was “not leaving Iron Maiden “, so perhaps we’ll hear his playing on more Maiden albums after all?

None of the stories have specifically mentioned future recordings at all, but yes, I wondered the same.

I've never listened to British Lion, but I suppose it's no surprise that they've picked someone from the Iron Maiden "family".  Joe Lazarus would have been the other contender.

Just realised I did a gig with him in the mid 90s

I got to see British Lion with my dad in January and Simon Dawson was seriously good, so I'm not surprised at all.
