Why are these emoticons appearing ?

Just click the small smiley face and they will disappear. It's a drop-down arrow, but when clicked it is persistent until clicked again.
I know that... :lol: That's how I got them to appear in the first place ! Basically, I'm asking @digitalscream why they are there on our implementation of Vanilla and if there's any chance they might work one day.
Maybe change the thread title to “Why don’t these emojis work?” :)

I'm outraged. Why has that wee clickable smiley face icon with the drop-down panel of emoticons disappeared. I liked indolently clicking on it and then grumbling about its presence. This is really unfair. That was my toy.
Well, it suddenly occurred to me that a bunch of errors I've been seeing were the plugin that was providing the non-functional button. Can't you fix it and put it back ? We need more emoticons. I mean, as far as forums go, this one is severely lacking in built-in smileys. I can go external and use gifs outside, but it's a PITA...

There were no others, because the plugin didn't work.
What you can do is hit the colon followed by almost any letter and it'll give you options. I'm going to try to grab a list of them when I can.
(FYI, that's colon followed by D, or "grin" with colons instead of quotes)

I was typing something in brackets that ended with a B and immediately I typed the closing bracket I saw it adding a colon and a dash and something else before it turned into a brown angry face. It's not happening now.

Also - a suggestion - the Help & Feedback section front page is a mountain of stickied announcement threads - What about creating a subdirectory for them called 'FAQs' or something, clearing the page for people asking specific help questions ?
