Comments
Russian Circles for the heavier side
pg.lost, Mono and Caspian all interesting bets too.
i quite like Slift (not slint) but that strays into psych and stoner rock more often than not

Red Sparrowes
If These Trees Could Talk
Jakob
Lymbyc Systym
From Monument To Masses (A Sixth Trumpet is glorious)
And most definitely Tides Of Man - the Young And Courageous album.
And maybeshewill - He Films The Clouds Part 2 is absolutely magnificent.

Never have so many unknown bands massed under the flag of a single genre.

I can't stand post rock generally (Pink Floyd PTSD I guess - that classic generic half time groove-free slow building and loads of ecstatic shimmers/delays/reverbs at the end), but I recommend Trans Am (they are often labeled as post rock).
Tortoise, Gastr Del Sol.
Yeah, that list contains Tortoise, Stereolab and Broadcast who I definitely wouldn't put in the same box as Godspeed... and Mogwai, but I think they're all excellent.
I take it you already know late Talk Talk?

Stereolab and Broadcast I wouldn't certainly label post rock.
You might wanna try Do Make Say Think
Thanks all - will dive into all of these and see what sticks :)
The Spotify playlist is pretty good, if predictable. But you'll find your current faves + most of the big hitters in here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DX32bIaq3EQaH?si=91ff3ce1716d4246
It’s post post rock in that Ariel M is David Pajo from Slint, but definitely have a listen to Live From a Shark Cage.
But also, you need to listen to Spiderland on repeat until you like it.

Rock is still around, so how can there be post-rock?
Much like postmodern the phrase makes no sense.
Jim O'Rourke. There is often cross over with bands and members in this genre.
Quite a Googlable / GPTable question; not a genre I know that well but Oceansize == win.
Came here thinking it was about my recently storm damaged fence...
Some great new listening suggestions, but I guess the wobbly fence shall remain

I like Oceansize, but consider them closer to prog than post-rock.topdog91 said:Quite a Googlable / GPTable question; not a genre I know that well but Oceansize == win.
I did once see a lovely ballet about the Forth Bridge.
Back to suggestions, if you're not averse to a bit of cheese, Moonlit Sailor - We Come From Exploding Stars is worth a go. Also The Echelon Effect, and Codes In The Clouds.

Ashes in the Snow in particular on this session is pretty jaw-dropping. Shot wonderfully too, and there's the added easter-egg that they must NEVER SHOW THE GIBSON BASS!!
oh and I suppose I should flag @SpiritOf58 band Aaronson, because he wont do it. Not as good as Mono, but you know...."perfectly listenable" =) =) =)

We've had Post Rock for thirty years so I'm sure we are onto Post Post Rock if not Post Post Post Rock by now.guyinlyon said:Rock is still around, so how can there be post-rock?Much like postmodern the phrase makes no sense.

We are the poor man's Mono, unless you appreciate people standing to play post rock, in which case we may be your new favourite band ;-)
FFO: Explosions in the sky, Mogwai and Mono I would say.

How about Silver Moth?
From the bio:
” Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai, Elisabeth Elektra, Evi Vine, Steven Hill, members of Abrasive Trees, Burning House and Prosthetic Head convened to improvise the album in early 2021, inspired by a Twitter exchange between Abrasive Trees guitarist/songwriter Matthew Rochford, musician Elisabeth Elektra and fellow artist Nick Hudson about the Isle of Lewis. A couple of Zoom meetings would subsequently lead to Rochford, Elektra, Vine, Braithwaite, Hill, drummer Ash Babb and cellist Ben Roberts visiting the dramatic location of Great Bernera’s Black Bay Studios on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, where they tracked the songs in just four days: a testament to the musicians’ focused openness to their shared mission and environment.”

@SpiritOf58 You may have a new fan :) Assuming I've picked the right artist as there are 2 Aaronsons on iTunes...SpiritOf58 said:Haha, appreciate that!GavRichList said:oh and I suppose I should flag @SpiritOf58 band Aaronson, because he wont do it. I'm generally a fan of Explosions in the Sky.
I have enjoyed various things from Godspeed You! Black Emperor, This Will Destroy You and Mogwai.
I also quite like Tycho when in the right mood.
I don't enjoy Slint whenever the Spotify algorithm tries to feed them to me
What else is there I might like?
