My god - one of the best gigs I’ve been to in many many years. His songs are majestic. The lyrics move me to tears embarrassingly frequently. Wonderful night taking my son to his first arena gig -  not a bad one to start with.
If you ever get a chance, go and see him (Sam Fender that is, not my son… although he’s great too).

That’s great to hear. I’m taking my son tomorrow
I’ve done Seventeen Going Under at a gig before now. Not easy to pull off without going into a faux Geordie accent and sounding like you’re taking the mick, but my goodness what a powerful lyric from such a young chap!

”I was far too scared to hit him, but I would hit him in a heartbeat now” is far from the most poignant lyric in the song but for some reason always hits me in the feels. He sounds like he really means this stuff he’s singing about.

As soon as Spit of You starts I’m in bits and by the time it gets to ‘and one day that’ll be your forehead I’m kissing, and I’ll still look exactly like you’  I can’t see through the tears.
Cathartic stuff. Enjoy anyone who’s going tomorrow - it should be epic.

Totally echo what @mattdavis says. Truly amazing show. And one of the first points of musical crossover in taste between my son and I. He went to Boardmasters and came back with Covid and a love of indie music.

We cover this with one of my bands. It’s a brilliant lyric and gets an amazing reaction from every crowd we’ve played it to. Genius song.

That’s awesome. Nice to bridge the musical gap :-)

Oh shit, that sucks :(
Not a fan nor do I know much if any of his stuff to be honest. I know who he is obviously, and heard one of his new songs t'other day and thought "that sounds like he was influenced by The War on Drugs", unaware that yer man in TWOD produced his new album, so that adds up.

Saw that - felt sorry for him and the fans who will miss out.
I can't really say I am a big fan of the war on drugs (any of them) or Fender's style of music - but I heard him talk about the bereavement behind his current song People Watching - then I read the lyrics and was struck by his sincerity, empathy and way with stringing words together to convey experience - even if, like me, it isn't really your cup of tea, I think he's clearly a serious talent

I people-watch on the way back home
Envious of the glimmer of hope
Gives me a break from feeling alone
Gives me a moment out of the ego
I used to feel so invincible
I used to feel there was a world worth dreamin' of
Back in the Gasworks, screamin' the song
Just the beauty of youth would quell my aching heart
Oh, I feel so dark rememberin'
Oh, my heart, I feel so dark rememberin'
I people-watch on the way back home
Everybody on the treadmill, runnin'
Under the billboards, out of the heat
Somebody's darling's on the street tonight
Oh, I can't stop runnin'
I see the whole town fall
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
Ooh
Ooh, ooh
I came back home after seven years
Wide awake, tracing tracks of her tears
Cornered the nurse to get the gist of it
I promised her I'd get her out of the care home
The place was fallin' to bits
Understaffed and overruled by callous hands
The poor nurse was around the clock
And the beauty of youth had left my breaking heart
But it wasn't hard when you love someone
Oh, I stayed all night 'til you left this life 'cause that's just love
I people-watch on the way back home
Everybody on the treadmill, runnin'
Under the billboards, out of the heat
Somebody's darling's on the street tonight
Oh, I can't stop runnin'
I see the whole town fall
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
Above the rain-soaked Garden of Remembrance
Kittiwakes etched your initials in the sky
Oh, I fear for this crippled island and the turmoil of the times
And I'll hold you in my heart 'til the day I die
Oh
I people-watch on the way back home
Everybody on the treadmill, runnin'
Under the billboards, out of the heat
Somebody's darling's on the street tonight
Oh, I can't stop runnin'
I see the whole town fall
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
I people-watch on the way back home
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh

He's a Geordie that plays Jazzmasters…what's there to like?

Nah, seriously he's a cracking lad with some great tunes and passionate songs.
