Eli Abbot 5E3 Deluxe question

My guess Neil is that it is a power reduction circuit and I would bet the power device is a MOSFET. Can you see any numbers in it?
Dave.
Sounds exactly like what Dave described, disconnected but they’ve left the ground attached.

And that's exactly what is is! Thanks for the update and the link. Much appreciated.
If not, why not give the maker a shout to see if he can shed any light on it…
Eli is a postman now, so I think you are out of luck if you need him.
From Blackstar to the Royal Mail! I didn't see that coming.longshins said:Eli is a postman now, so I think you are out of luck if you need him.
I'm sorry to hear that Eli isn't involved with amps anymore (if that's the case). I had one of his 5E3s, and thought it was quite excellent.
There are Milkman amps, so why not Postman amps?longshins said:Eli is a postman now, so I think you are out of luck if you need him.

Unlike a Milkman amp, a Postman amp would have to be PAT tested.
There is a volume knob (well, its a pot), coming out of the bottom left of the chassis, by the power transformer. (Not part of the original 5e3 design). On the inside of the chassis this pot is connected to a small circuit board (About 1" square) with a couple of resistors and a black, what looks like a power transistor, 3 prongs, that is bolted to the inside of the chassis wall and connected to the circuit board.
There are two wires that come of the board, one is soldered to the chassis and the other doesnt go anywhere, just coiled up. Does anyone have any idea what this meant to be, or what it does?
Many thanks in advance. Neil
