The Unused Pedal

My Klon Centaur serial number #1. I don't even have it plugged in. Purely ornamental.
That I totally get. You should have it in a little glass case on there, with a little brass plaque on itHeartfeltdawn said:My Klon Centaur serial number #1. I don't even have it plugged in. Purely ornamental.
Board? no.
House? oh god yes several.

CE-2 or any version thereof. I’m all about the idea of chorus but it never works in the bands I play with.
Zoom Ultra Fuzz
I have it in my pedalboard flightcase next to whatever multi-FX I'm currently using (Boss ME-90 now), mostly because it sounds like the Fuzz Factory I used a lot in the late 90s/early 2000s.
None of the music I currently or am likely to play which would involve taking the board to a gig requires unstable squealing noise terror.

Now there's a name for a band!ICBM said:Zoom Ultra Fuzz

Small Stone phaser. I don’t use it for anything in the current set list, but it’s too lush to exile it from the board.ScreamingDave said:Does anyone else have a stomp box on your board that you never use, but it keeps its place because you love it so much? Either you love the sound or just love the idea if it?
I had a Marshall Vibratrem in my board for nearly 20 years and never used it once in anger. I loved the sound of it, but it was just never right for any numbers we did.
Just got this for 120 eur, I hope it won't be THAT pedal

ontopic: there is no entirely unused pedal on my board, but Boss PS-3 is the least used, although I have ideas to utilize it for some new songs.

A T-Rex Quint.
I very rarely use an octave down effect at all, even less so octave up, and even less the fifth up...!
However, I've bought and sold one twice now, and having bought the third, I'll be damned if I take it off again only to buy another =)

An Orange Squeezer clone I built a couple of years ago. My first DIY pedal, it opened the door to so much more (I’m building my own circuits now), I put it together with my daughter, I modded it to no end… but I no longer have a use for a compressor pedal. The AC15 compresses without a pedal and sounds beautiful. So no idea what to do with it.
I had one of those - very good sounding, but almost useless for playing live due to several stupid design flaws that I can only assume mean it was designed by someone who didn’t. Hopefully you will find ways to make it work for you…distressed said:

What flaws exactly? I've bought it out of curiosity and because it's easy to flip (and because Marc Ribot raves about it), and my intent was to put it as always-on solution at the end of chain (instead of SHO, which I'd put right after the guitar I suppose).
The only flaw I've noticed so far (tried it at home into Logic) is that you have to engage both gain and level to produce sound, it has no signal if gain is 0.
Reverb sounds better than I expected (apart from usual fake sounding drip which is normal with those digital stuff I guess). Haven't tried Tremolo yet.
You can’t footswitch the tremolo off without turning the whole pedal off. (Nor the reverb, although that’s less likely to be an issue for most users.) There should be a footswitch setting option that operates the tremolo while leaving the amp simulation on. Or at the least, a jack so you can plug in an external footswitch.
The gain and level controls are on a fiddly stacked pot, when they’re the controls you’re likely to need most. The treble and bass are on single large knobs which you don’t need. A better arrangement would be gain, treble/bass, reverb/tremolo, level.
There’s no speaker-emulated output so you can’t use it direct to the PA as an amp substitute/backup - it has to go into a clean guitar amp. (Very clean, or it can’t sound like a Fender Deluxe.) That made it useless to me, even without the tremolo switching problem, since it’s exactly what I wanted it for. Luckily I took mine in a trade rather than buying it new - it never occurred to me that an ‘amp in a box’ pedal can’t actually be used as an amp in a box…
That said, if those things aren’t a problem for you, it does sound really good.
For practical reasons, I couldn't have a pedal on my board that I never use, however I have an MXR flanger on mine which only gets used for one single song out of 30 to 40 songs at a gig.
I've got a Flint I won't part with but hardly ever turn on. I use both sides of it for one song in our set and that's it. Partly because of the type of stuff we play, partly because I prefer delay to reverb when playing live.
Up until very recently I'd have said my Boss Vibrato pedal - such a fetching shade of blue and I like the look of the word Vibrato. But just a couple of weeks ago I started using it; depth set extremely low, around 8 o'clock and rate to suit and it's suddenly become my favourite sound. So do not despair neglected pedal, your day will dawn.

Well it seems like a proper pain in the ass for regular pedal use
Regarding the amp, it's high headroom SF Bassman, so I guess it's ok.
I have used my wah pedal approximately twice in the last 10 years. I would never be without it, but not quite sure why.
Same on the wah front. Mine is very occasionally useful but usually stays at home. It's also chrome with a green LED and BYOD circuit inside so getting another would be a complete pain if I ever had tosteer said:I have used my wah pedal approximately twice in the last 10 years. My other most obvious ones are a 2003 Rat and 2007-ish Hotcake. Neither see very much use if I'm honest these days but have immense sentimental value
Well the idea of my board is that it's supposed to be that in my one man band, I'm playing the role of three or so guitarists, so I've got more dirt pedals than is reasonable. The Carcosa, Russian Muff clone and EQD Life are all there for the same reason - filth. The reality is that the Carcosa is my go to, so the other two very, very rarely get touched. I like to think that I'll stick to the concept more faithfully in the future, and the Life especially, will earn it's very considerable corn. It's really nice to look at too.
Conversely the cheapo Mosky SHO clone at end of chain is always on, regardless of guitar, dirt or HX amp patch I'm using.
It really is all a bit silly this guitar gear lark.

I always liken guitar playing to cooking. Your guitar and amp are the main ingredients and your pedal board is your spice rack. It pays to use them all sparingly and definitely never more than a few at a time.
it’s just that the occasional pedal is like the Chinese Five Spice that sits at the back of the cupboard and never gets used

I did chicken wings with a little Chinese 5 spice a couple of days ago. I liked them, but my family not so much. A bit like chorus
Did you face a chorus of disapproval?
Yes, though politely. And very well played sir
I like Five Spice, and chorus. I grew up in the 80s… sorry!
Mosaic 12 string. You know that Topgun scene where Maverick throws Goose's dog tags into the ocean off that aircraft carrier
When it comes to me and chorus, I'm more like the scene after the volleyball game. The list of chorus pedals I've owned is long and distinguished.Octavio said:Mosaic 12 string. You know that Topgun scene where Maverick throws Goose's dog tags into the ocean off that aircraft carrier
Chorus is defo the aviator shades of the pedal board.Heartfeltdawn said:When it comes to me and chorus, I'm more like the scene after the volleyball game. Put it on and you feel cool and better looking, but in a cheesy way. Take them off and you feel a bit naked.
My EHX Small Clone is my most used pedal. Although, interestingly, as far as shades go I’m a Ray Ban Wayfarer man
