Shorty Tele Bass , finally

One of these in the bridge - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281770901714
And one of these in the neck - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283516430985
(No affiliation with the seller, just that he sells cheap Rick-type pickups - I didn't know about the '51 P-type until I looked for the Rick one!)

Ive got a p-bass pickup ready to go , waiting on some aluminium sheet to arrive so I can make a better surround for the bridge. Will give the Rick pickup a go.
Thats the seller I had the neck and bridge from , his website https://retrovibe.co.uk/ has loads on interesting build on it and quite a few parts .

Surely the bridge pickup on any bass should be a Stingray type?
yeah but I'd have to cut bigger holes and stuff, its been a while in the making so unless a used cheap pickup turns up i'm going in the parts bin
Ooooo I like thatspev11 said:As much as I'd love that new Shergold tele bass I'm an even worse bassist than guitarist so I built this instead. I've had the neck for almost 2 year, never managed to source a body for it (mostly through apathy on my part). Thanks to @DrBob and the purple body It's up and running. The twin rail is a bit meh but I've not tried through a proper bass amp yet so It might suprise me.
I'll make a better pickup surround once Im sure what pickup is going in there. I fancy one of those four rail humbuckers for a bit of fun
The sweet spot for a split coils P pickup is roughly where a central guitar pickup would go on that Tele body. Too close to the bridge and they wimp out.spev11 said:Ive got a p-bass pickup ready to go.
Money no object, my suggestion would be an active P in a humbucker or bass soapbar housing. e.g. EMG-HB or Fishman Fluence Mike Inez signature model middle pickup.
I usually dislike straight copies of guitars for bass styles (SG, Les Paul etc) but this looks awesome!
I've got a mild obsession with Teles so a Telebass seemed the next thing on the list, i'm having pickup dilemma now. I'd like to try all the above options but I'm trying (and failing) to be realistic as Its only for me to practice on and put some very simple bass backing lines down for me to dick about with. Doubtless it will end up with 2 or 3 pickups in there. This morning I was contemplating modding a jazzmaster trem that I have here.
