Alternatives to Hipshot Ultralights?

I nearly have all the parts needed to assemble my bitsa P bass.

I had planned on my usual default of Hipshot USA Ultralights but I'm wondering what other directly replacement tuners are similarly light?

I would be getting Y key versions as they are Hipshot's lightest at 49g. 

Are Gotoh Res-o-lite a direct fit for a Fender Player jazz neck? They are only 40g apparently.

I did look at the Graphtech Ratios but they seem to have really small posts and the tuner holes in the neck would need to be filled and redrilled or some sort of adapter bushing used.

Any ideas?

I have Gotohs on my favourite P neck. GBR640 according to my email confirmation. They're good tuners. I think the R stands for reverse action - I'm sure you can get them either way round. 

Based on my thread at the time they took about 200g off the total weight and obviously reduce neck dive a smidge as well.

Those are about 12g heavier per tuner than the Hipshots.

48g makes quite a difference at the end of a long bass neck.

The Gotohs feel more solid and IIRC the keys are softer on the hand in use. I have the hipsots on a 5 and had the gotoh on a 4. For a 4 string you'll be perfectly fine w the Gotoh unless you're using paulonia for the body or have shoulder issues. 

The body is paulownia.

Yeah, I think they're about the lightest vintage-looking ones but obv if you're happy for a more modern look then others are obv better. 

It will sound like a P bass should, so I'm not at all fussed about how it looks.

For a start the neck says "Jazz Bass" on it! :D 

Why is it that having "jazz" in front of another word makes it look suspicious?

I'm wondering now if "jazz bass" means "banjo".

Wouldn't a banjo be Incest Bass, or Norfolk Bass, or similar?

Schaller used to (still do?) make certain tuners with nylon housings. Combine those with plastic keys and you’d have a very light set overall… assuming you could find a bass set!
