Boss SY1 SY200 users - how to do pad volume swells?

Anybody know how to get a pad effect that gradually fades in on the Boss SY1 or 200?  I can do it but have to use an expression pedal to control volume.  But Ideally would like to do it without the exp pedal so I can use it for another parameter.  

It's one nifty thing I've found on the POG 2.  It has an Attack slider so you can create these volume swells automatically.  Can't seem to do it on the Boss SY.  

I don't think you can on the SY-1. The pad sounds obviously do that to a small extent, but it's a volume pedal/knob if that isn't enough for you.

I can’t remember finding a setting that does that on the SY-1. Given that it works by processing the guitar signal itself and not triggering a separate sound, it probably can’t. You could run a Slow Gear type pedal either before or after it, but that will obviously cost money and board space.

It's gonna depend on what you're using it with.
I graduated from the SY-1 to the SY-200 and use it in a loop of either an HX Stomp or FM9 and have an auto swell set up before it in the chain. It's this sort of stuff that has kept me in the modelling world - it's so much easier to accomplish than with a regular amp/ pedals setup.

I have the SY200 as well and at the moment it's just in a series chain (ie not in a loop of anything). I can't find a pad model that has an Attack parameter, so I've lost hope that it can be done without an exp pedal or a slow gear type of pedal before it. Not the end of the world. Just a bit gutted  because it would've been perfect for my needs had it had this attack feature like the POG2 has.
