Why do I keep searching?
I have three guitars which I’ve owned for over 25 years which cover everything I want need to do, yet still in that time and forward into the future , will keeping buying and swapping out more!

Why do you keep searching? Curiosity? Interest in guitars? A way to stop the rot (of your brain and creativity)? Just because?

I am just the same, I have 4. One I have had 52 years and one I have had for only three and a half but I am always looking. Nothing wrong with that, not compared with some of the members. All mine are keepers anyway.

I think it's just fun to look and try new things, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I had one keeper ( now two courtesy of @Deadman ) and a revolving door of other guitars that I buy courtesy of a healthy guitar fund.
If I see something I like, I buy it with the intention of playing it a while but always with the idea of moving it on eventually.
I’ve been able to own and play some great guitars but like you, always had the old pair of slippers to go back to.
Nothing wrong with a bit of buying and selling if you have the cash spare.

Finding the guitars which suit one best is, I feel, initially trial and error, influenced by aesthetic/do I look cool in this? considerations. But once you know you're in a particular T-type, S-type, Lester or semi camp - and finding examples of each which you like - the quest (IMHO) should perhaps then focus on amps and pedals. And that for me is much murkier...
Buying nice things for yourself is fine so long as you can afford it.
I'm not sure I'm even searching - things seem to just pop up and make eyes at me!

I’m someone who shifts gear like there’s no tomorrow without even letting the postage label dry. Daft.
I do like trying out stuff I always fancied owning though. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The guitar market is just one big loan club, no different from a library, only your library card is dosh.

Thrill of the chase innit!!?..I could get by with just a Strat and be perfectly happy..but y'know.
I don't disapprove at all fretfinder, I will buy another guitar if I see one I really want. So many members are buying and selling all the time. The times I have read that guitars have been sold and in a short time have said I wish I had kept that one.
The same reason some men have affairs but stay married I guess.
