And here's one you might be less familiar with... John Martyn. Acoustic player, revolutionary live and recording approach. but still had all the excesses of your conventional rock god.
And a few to which even your average rock god wouldn't stoop.

The ultimate "attitude" player is Link Wray.
Especially in the 70s.
Strutting around, dressed like Elvis, medalion on point, chewing gum, snarling and playing a chord when and if he feels like it.
Pure rock n roll.
And without any of the drugs or drink.
A lot of other players needed to be properly hammered before they could even approach a modicum of Link's attitude.
All with one lung, which I think was why he played instrumentals because he couldn't physically sing.

I’m sure he must have gone drinking with Steve Clark once or twice.

Back in the day, apparently James Hetfield & Kirk Hammett took some keeping up with.

Dave Mustaine too, before he got sober and born again.

Left field interjection... if 'proper rock guitarists' is code for 'entertainers that drink too much' then look no further than Bill Werbeniuk and Cliff Lazarenko.

Happy Christmas to one and all :+1:
