High Power Tweed Twin Recommendations

@Gassage
The 5F8-A circuit is essentially a 5F6-A Bassman with more power and two 12” speakers. If you don’t need the extra power it shouldn’t be difficult to get one of the UK builders to make a 2x12” Bassman, since all the other parts are standard (although it would need a 4-ohm OT rather than the 2-ohm Bassman one).
Gartone ,Gartone,Gartone and also Gartone
I would recommend earplugs!
For something like that I'd recommend Gartone, without a doubt.
I also offer a 5F8-A with onboard reverb, as a custom build. Here's one I did in Black Tweed.

That’s a work of art @RiftAmps
I have a Gartone JTM45 head & 2x12 cab. It’s a superb sounding amp & also impeccably well put together, with top shelf components.
I've been thinking about getting a 4x10 cab to get closer to Bassman tones.
I don’t think you could go wrong with either Rift or Gartone.
Do you really need that much power though?!

Thanks for all the responses guys! ICBM said:
That’s an interesting option I hadn’t thought of. I don’t need the volume of the 80 watts the 5F8A puts out normally, but much prefer the sound compared to the low power tweed twin (from videos anyway). @RiftAmps would this work and sound just like a 5F8-A at slightly lower volume? Thanks for the recommendation - I’ve not really heard of them until looking into this. I can’t seem to find prices for their stuff online though (I have looked!). Is it a case of reaching out to them to get a price do you know? Also, have you played / heard them in person? Any thoughts?
That’s a good shout - to be fair, when I play at home, I use captor X’s and either studio monitors or IEM’s and when I do use the speakers and move air, it’s in a separate room / behind or off stage so the volume doesn’t really impact me or my hearing as I’m not close to it.Lebarque said:I would recommend earplugs!
That sounds amazing and exactly the vibe I am after! Thanks @RickLucas , Gartone is certainly looking more and more tempting!RickLucas said:
Thanks for the honesty @RiftAmps, that amp looks beautifully made! Would you mind letting me know how much a custom build like that would run for? Feel free to DM me if you’d rather not comment prices publicly.RiftAmps said:For something like that I'd recommend Gartone, without a doubt.

It’s good to hear of your positive experience with Gartone - do you mind me asking how much the JTM set you back? I don’t have much of an idea currently for how much Gartone amps cost as the only costs for them I can find are secondhand and not new.breadfan said:That’s a work of art @RiftAmps

I don’t need that power, but it doesn’t hurt in my situation to have more or less power as amps are in a separate room with mics in front of them. So it’s more a case of sound. I had looked at the lower power twin - which would volume wise be more similar to my Ac30 that I plan to run in stereo with the twin, but the tone of the high power is much more to my taste.
I was fortunate to have bought it used. I can’t recall the new price or what I paid for it - I’ve had it for about eight years.Jtaylor said:It’s good to hear of your positive experience with Gartone - do you mind me asking how much the JTM set you back? Martin did have prices on his website but it appears to be under construction at the moment. I’m quite sure they’re similar to those at Rift, so you should be able to get a rough idea from Chris’s site.
They’re not cheap but the components are as good as you can get & the build quality is exceptional.
The 5E8-A is a completely different circuit - different input section, different tone stack and a cathodyne phase inverter (like a 5E3 Deluxe) not long-tailed pair (like a 5F6-A Bassman). Although there will be some minor differences due to the four power valves and bigger transformers, the 5F8-A circuit is otherwise almost identical to the 5F6-A so it should sound very similar. I would expect the biggest difference will be the speakers.Jtaylor said:

To get as much sag at full power with the Bassman circuit, you may want to replace the GZ34 (which the Twin still only has one of, so it's really being hammered) with a 5V4.

I subsequently rewatched the that pedal show episode on tweed amps which confirmed it.
I already have a Lazy J J20 but I am thinking of switching it out for a High Power Tweed Twin reissue / clone.
