A good video for anyone interested in steel resonator guitars.
As an owner of a Gretsch Honeydipper, which I love, this tutorial really gives a great insight into the workings and tone of these great instruments..

I used to own one, many years ago, and nearly bought another one in 2021 before I went cold on the idea. All else aside, the damn things are so loud that I'd have to go up to the shed to play one - Mrs Tannin is very good, but there are limits. Also, I don't ever seem to play slide anymore, which is three parts of the appeal.
So put me down as a non-player but nevertheless an interested onlooker.
PS: haven't watched the video yet, but I recognise those hands - JJ is always good value.

I concur with the sbove comment. There's a resonator in the classifieds at the moment which keeps tempting me but for the infrequent use it would get here in the fishbowl.
Thanks for posting the vid thgouh, I will make time to watch it this week,
Thanks for the video, very interesting. I have owned several resonators over the years, but unless you are a serious blues player they just don't get enough playing time.
I have a Regal Tricone which I play fairly regularly. Very good fun and quite a nice player. Damned heavy though. I can only play it sitting on the couch which is not ideal and gets a bit uncomfortable after half-an-hour. 3year old grandson loves to have it flat on his knee and fiddle with it with a plectrum which he regularly drops in it! Totally bombproof!
Interesting video but I don’t play slide so for me it’s just another fingerpicker.

I shouldn’t have watched that video. Rekindled a dream of fingerstyle blues I first flirted with about 20 years ago. This time I’m more likely to forego the learning bit & hope a new guitar will make it work :#
