When is your last working day before Xmas?
Comments
Finished on Friday until after New Year but there is no one to do my job so if there is something urgent I’ll have to deal with it.
It was five years ago last Thursday =)
When do you go back? (feel free to hate me)
Something like this for me as well.munckee said:Finished on Friday until after New Year but there is no one to do my job so if there is something urgent I’ll have to deal with it.
Made it clear to everyone it better be an emergency.... server down, edi not working etc... not some tossers laptop "a bit slow".
Last Friday. I’m off until 6th Jan.
Yay.
Yay.
Today. Back in on Friday though :'(
Tomorrow lunchtime
5th May 2010!
But when I was working (full-time rural NHS GP partner) it would have been Christmas Eve lunchtime as @Dominic every year unless I was rota'd to do that Christmas and then I would have been on-call from home for visits continuously until everyone else came back on 26th Dec. Not a great arrangement and a beady eye was kept to ensure all colleagues got their fair share of working Christmases! No allowance for age or having young family etc.
It is excellent that working hours are becoming ever more reasonable. If you don't see people at Christmas at least, you're not going to see them are you.
Have great hols.

Tomorrow, then back in work on Friday. But I had a week off a short time ago and was on leave last Christmas, so it's all good.
Last Thursday. Back on the 7th.
We got the 24th off for free, I don't work on Mondays, and we get three "duvet days" which I use between Crimbo and New Year, so I think all of that cost me 2 days of actual leave.
Since Friday I have mostly been building a radio controlled car kit, because that's what I used to do in the run up to Christmas when I was much smaller. It's ace.

I built a couple of Tamiya cars as a kid. One was a Grasshopper and I can't remember the other one.Sporky said:We got the 24th off for free, I don't work on Mondays, and we get three "duvet days" which I use between Crimbo and New Year, so I think all of that cost me 2 days of actual leave.

The other one was faster (RS540 motor I think) but the battery only lasted about 12 minutes so I tended to play with the Grasshopper more as I got 30 mins out of that. I think that had a RS380 motor in it.
That was a long time ago!
Tomorrow, then back in next week, with 1 Jan as a public holiday.
My lot don’t believe in the baby Jesus so I’m using some leave for the 3 days I’m taking this week
Mine was last Thursday, back on the 6th
Tomorrow. Also working New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.The joy of retail :-)
The last day I did any work was Tuesday last week, back to doing as little as possible on the 6th.
I might make a start on doing my accounts between now and then, otherwise known as rounding up all the invoices from the various places I leave them.
99% of the parts I need for my bitsa P bass have arrived, so assuming I cock something up between Xmas and NY I'll have something for you to do in January!Paul_C said:The last day I did any work was Tuesday last week, back to doing as little as possible on the 6th.I might make a start on doing my accounts between now and then, otherwise known as rounding up all the invoices from the various places I leave them.
I never really stop and have often used a bit of Christmas Day to catch up with things. But I'm self employed anyway. It's a good time for me as nothing much new happens so I can deal with all the things I've tried to ignore throughout the year.
June 30th 2016.
last Weds. The 2 weeks over xmas are relief for us, meaning they can give us any shift they need covering. This year, the relief Gods have been kind to me and I will have had 7 days off before the day. Back in for a run of 3 on Boxing day, then a few days off and another run of 4 on new years day. That said, worked the last 2 xmas days, and I'm working it next year, so I guess I'm owed one day off occasionally.
Last Friday. Back on 6th Jan. Happy with that.
Edit: Got a NYE gig, which is definitely work.
Also done some marking and planning, and got more planning to do. Nice to have a bit of time to get those things done properly.

Yep, and also the joy of being the suppliers to retail. Had I still been working and still on nightshift I would have finished work arount 8am on the morning of Christmas Eve, spent several hours in bed and then got up still tired to try and make the best of it. I would have had to try and adjust to being up during the day to make the best of Christmas Day, then had to sleep during the day on Boxing Day to go back into work for 8pm. A necessary job so that bored people out indolently roaming the fashion shops looking for bargains on Boxing Day would have stuff to buy. People will no doubt be visiting garden centre shops on Boxing day to buy next year's Christmas decorations at heavily reduced prices, so it's obviously an essential task to make sure they can get to do this. As it happens I've had flu for a week and I am still feeling so shitty I am just letting Christmas bypass me this year.
I've been trying to sell a house and the lawyers were so busy planning their work night out and having such a jolly time thinking about their festive break that they overlooked the offer to buy the house that had been sitting there for almost 2 weeks. I finally got them moving on Thursday but the draft letter of acceptance I ratified that day will now be left sitting there for another 2 weeks until they return on the 6th.
I think HMRC frown on rounding up of invoices.Paul_C said:I might make a start on doing my accounts between now and then, otherwise known as rounding up all the invoices from the various places I leave them.
Tomorrow, only til about 3.
@BillDL do you supply the Squires Garden Centre chain? We're shut Boxing Day but our branch is one jf the chosen ones doing New Year's Day.
Today will be fuelled by an appalling amount of high calorie snacks. I'd rather stay at my desk to midnight and then be finished than have to do anything tomorrow.
What about you lot?
What about in between Xmas and New Year? I might have to do 1 normal working day this year, but hopefully other than that I can spend it with the family.
