My single favourite moment.
The first time I saw this I wept with laughter.

Hellzapoppin (totally bonkers Marx Brothers film)
Bonkers, certainly, but IIRC no Marx Brothers in it?

Admittedly seen it once about 20 years ago!
You’re right! Although I had to check with IMDB because I was convinced they were in it. I think the Beeb ran a whole series of Marx Brothers and similar films one year and this was part of it, so I must’ve got my wires crossed. It’s still a great film, complete mayhem with some hilarious visual gags.

Are there films that make you laugh out loud a lot?

I think that There's Something About Mary is a good one, but you have to watch that with the right people - I would NOT have watched it with my mum for example!

For me, the film with the best funny scenes is Liar liar. Jim Carrey at his finest! The great scenes: I'm kicking my ass, the pen is blue, the board room, the turkey impression in the court room, honestly I laugh every time I see them.

Airplane the first time you see it was very funny, but once you have seen it there's not much to go back to.

There are many great comedy films though, loads of good ones listed.

Going to have to disagree with you there. Airplane is a comedy classic and we laugh like hyenas every time we see it.

We watched Die Hard with a Vengeance last night. While it’s not supposed to be a comedy, some of SLJs lines are bloody hilarious and delivered perfectly.

My comment earlier was that the joy in Airplane! is that you can find new things or things you hadn't remembered at least. Not much of a plot admittedly but that was never the point.

Anchorman
Me, Myself and Irene
Team America
Hot Shots
Mrs Doubtfire
Forgot about team America, that is hilarious.
I remember going to see it with several work mates when it came out. Along with everyone else in the cinema, all of us were crying with laughter … apart from Debbie at the end who sat there unmoved and didn’t laugh once. Thinking about it now still boggles the mind.

Years ago I went with a friend to see The Three Musketeers in Birmingham somewhere near Merry Hill.

Before they screened the main attraction we got a free early viewing of Hot Shots Part Deux. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard at the cinema, it was just hilarious from start to finish. The atmosphere in the cinema probably helped but it’s remained a favourite ever since.

No word of a lie but for days after I had sore muscles in my core from laughing so hard.
Ok. I’ll try.

Withnail and I
Spinal Tap
Trading Places
Life of Brian
Stir Crazy

Lots more but this will do.

I love all Tati's films, as I've said many times before, but I hesitated to mention them in this thread because it's a very gentle kind of humour... you watch the whole thing with a smile on your face rather than laughing out loud.  But well done for mentioning it anyway!

No, no, no, don't make a connection between Reform and What's Up Doc?  Things aren't that bad.  Yet.

Also part of the joy of Airplane is knowing many of the gags by heart. And still laughing like a drain.

There are two I find even funnier - Clouseau arrives at the chateau, gets out of the car and falls into the fountain; and the game of snooker.  Absolute genius and I never tire of seeing that film.

Is that the one where he does the show off routine on the bannister and lands on the side with no floor?

No, that’s strikes again, with the tooth extraction ploy in the castle. I think that’s my fave.

Not a film as such, but "Dinner For One" is possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen - Freddie Frinton and May Warden.  Apparently watched on New Years Eve all over central Europe and Scandinavia.

Also, re Airplane!, it was a spoof on the early blockbuster novels by such as Arthur Hailey - his first was Airport.
