I bought some Chelsea boots from Asda 3 weeks ago (£45) and the sole has come off one.
I now need replacement ones so does anyone know of any long lasting black one's for under £100

Unfortunately I've never found inexpensive boots that last.

I walk a lot of miles and I had a £100 pair of Clarks that disintegrated in a few months.

They are over £100 but I get the Brasher country traveller boots they are completely waterproof and last years if you look after them. Not black though so no good for you.

Unfortunately Commander Vimes knew what he was talking about.
I bought some black Chelsea boots from Bally in 1983 and I still have them.

I'm sure they were less than £100 at the time too!

I can fully recommend not buying Kickers ankle boots as I bought some on a nostalgia trip, which turned out to be the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn. Blisters and cuts on all four sides of my ankles within one 30 minute walk. Sadly I'd had them in the wardrobe for months before i wore them so can't take them back

Solovair - in the outlet can pick up some bargains from time to time

Loake - in the sales, if not, look on eBay, I’ve picked up a few pairs that I’ve had for a decade on there, bit of a buff with some Saphir and good as new!

I swear by Meindl shoes and boots. They are the only ones wide enough for my feet and you can wear them all day without wanting to hack your feet off come the evening.

Over 20+ years I've found the shoes to be good for at least 2,000 miles of walking before they need to be replaced.

I’ve got one. Full working order. Says it’s 8:01 and has Seiko written on the face.

Not cheap, but will last. Red Wing chucka, uve a paie, easily 15 years old, or a wolverine Chelsea.

It’s the future. All the kids are selling their unwanted clothes on Vinted and it’s the new normal.

Listening to them, seeing parcels arrive and depart you can see it’s what is happening these days.

Good suggestion from the poster here

Don't think I want used, I want boots that last me years of daily use, not ones that have already had a few years mileage.  Are ones with stitches around the sole better than ones without

This - Solovair are the brilliant for the money. I have a pair that are about 6 years old. Worn them loads. The sole started to break along the heat seal bit. Messaged solovair because they do a resole service. They said to post them to them, which I did and they fixed them (re-attached the sole) the cost you ask? FOC and they didn’t even ask me to cover the postage. Cannot recommend them enough. The soles on them were fine, they are really hard wearing but they could have easily charged me for replacing the soles.

Before I had the solovair I went through a pair of DM in 6 months. Sole had a hole through it and uppers were knackered.

Check out NPS. They are the sister brand of Solovair. I have some of them to and they are great.

I live in walking boots. My current pair are Altbergs, we’re bought in about 2018, and resoled earlier this year. The only times I wear shoes are gigs and funerals.

Then don’t buy shoes from Asda.

If you want shoes to last, buy quality. Look for Goodyear welted soles.

Some good suggestions above.  Look in the Loak new year sale.  There won’t be much under £150, but you mint find a bargain.  My favourite boots are my DM style Oxblood Loaks. Beautiful quality leather, thicker DM style sole, beautiful stitching.  I’ve had them for 5 years, and they still look barely worn.

Proper quality boots.

Suggest you have a look at https://www.barebackfootwear.com/collections/clearance-riding-boots-1. Although mainly aimed at horse riders , I have just bought a pair of the Kentucky ones and they are really built to last

Sam Vimes ‘Boots’ Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

Blundstone are pretty good.
I tried Solovair but found them to be narrow fitting compared to both DM and Blundstone Chelsea style boots.

I pretty much live in my Redback dealer/chelsea boots. They are working boots so not the most elegant looking but mine have survived miles of walking and my brother’s cope with life on the farm.  They’re are more than £100 though. Think I gave £150 for my black pair.

Thanks all, those Redback ones sound good. I may also spend the extra and get the uk made Solovair.

Probably not relevant to OP but I saw a really interesting feature on Country file a fortnight ago about traditional, hand-made working boots from the Peak District.

Here's the episode for anyone that is interested:

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00263cn via @bbciplayer

and here's a direct link to the manufacturer site as I've read up on them separately and will probably invest in a pair of boots that will see me out. I think they look fab.

Boots and shoes are the ultimate lesson in thrift and false economy ;
My grandfather was not a rich man but he had an and incredibly expensive pair of handmade boots (which he looked after like babies .......always polishing and putting Dubbin on them etc )......they were old but looked in very good condition
he told me how as a youing man he paid the equivalent of nearly 3 months wages for them .
They lasted forever.
I asked him why he spent so much on them and he said "with boots or shoes buy the very best you can afford ...that way you only cry once ! "
I have found that to be so true .
As a contradictory Coda I had a weird Temu offer come up and couldn't resist .......Three pairs of a certain stylish walking shoe for £3.15  ( for all three ).......yup £1.05 each ......I thought what the hell ,they'll be ideal for the gardening ..nothing to lose even if they fall apart after a week . They did indeed fall apart but I got 9 months of really hard use including wearing them on my motorbike out of each pair .....that was 18 months of working/walking /biking/wet/dry/etc for £3 ....you can't really argue with that !

@stufisher - those look nice, 20 week wait though.

@Dominic I accept that cheap boots won't last but it's difficult to tell which of the more expensive boots will last. For £185 I can either get Solovair or Dr Martens and I can't see anyone recommending DM's anywhere.
