Two notes torpedo captor - not great?
I got one of these for myself for Christmas with the intention of using it to get a +cab sim signal for FoH/IEMs when I am using my modeller in 4CM with my valve amp. If that makes sense. It works, but the feed from the captor doesn’t sound very good. A lot worse than the modeller direct anyway. Are they just not very good? Only having one cab sim to choose from might be the issue.

Are you using the Captor or Captor X? I didn't like the Captor analog sim much but the X is great and you can load whichever IR you fancy. The Captor needed an outboard IR loader in my opinion - very bright voicing on both Guitar and Bass cabs.
Just for clarity.. You're running into the modeller for "in front of the pre-amp" effects, then going through the preamp, then out of the amp FX loop for "after the preamp" effects, then back into the amp for the power amp and then the speaker cable goes into your Captor before feeding the loudspeaker and a cab sim/IR into a mixer somewhere. Is that it?
And is there an amp/cab block running in your modeller? Is there just a speaker block running in your modeller? And, as borntohang asked, is your Captor a Captor or a Captor X? And does it match the speaker? 8Ohm Captor with 8Ohm speaker, etc.
When you say the "modeller direct" sounds better, do you mean when you're using it just for effects with the valve amp (no amp/cab model) or do you mean just as a modeller?
Oh, and finally, what's your amp? Is the FX loop a serial loop or a parallel loop? You might as well tell us everything! :-)

:) the first para is correct, yes.TheBigDipper said:Just for clarity.. there is no amp block or IR running in the modeller (boss GX-100) - just using it for fx in this case.
I’m using the captor, not the captor x and it does match the speaker impedance.
By ‘modeller direct’ I mean the sounds I’m getting from the captor into the PA sounds a lot less gooder than if I select a patch with an amp block and IR and run that straight into the PA. I mention this because I’m trying to decide whether to stick with the valve amp (Orange TH30, Series Loop) or go full modeller -> FRFR.

Got it. I think borntohang has probably hit the nail. I had a Captor 8, and the cab sim was pretty poor. I also had a Cab+ and a Captor X. Their digital speaker emulation tech is better, but still not that great. I've owned a couple of GT1000s, and their cab tech sounded much better to my ears than Two Notes tech even though lots would argue with me.
Right. Probably not worth persevering with the Two Notes stuff then. The last couple of gigs I played I ran the GX-100 into the fx return of my TH30 which sounded fine but not great. 4CM sounds best but is not ideal for a FoH feed or for the IEMs some band members insist on using. I might be forced to try these new FRFR things - but Fender or Laney? That’s the question. :) That new Andertons vid made the Fender sound a bit better to my ears…TheBigDipper said:Got it.
