The amount you've spent on tat presents you could have just bought me a guitar

I mean, oh thank you wonderful.

Yeah there is truth in this. My nieces and nephews are teenagers now and we've just given them a card with money in. I don't know what they'd want and at that age I'd probably just want money for going out with my mates.

At least some pedals /strings / straps.

Most of my clan seem to have got some of the message with regards to general tat, except for the olds (bless em) who seem determined to turn the house into Landfill-by-Sea. Told them so many times ...

Hey ho, it's the thought that counts and I don't rely on anyone to get me what I really actually want - how would they know?

We dont do gifts as we dont need anything and if we do and can afford it get it ourselves, we got sick of buying shite for the sake of it, then sticking it away for years before binning it.

When we had the conversation years a go, we had both been thinking the same thing for years

Christmas has  just become utter commercialised bollocks

We are not even remotely religious

This year we left it all behind and went self catering in the New Forest….best Xmas for years…

My wife got me a nice pedal for Xmas - looking forward to trying it.

Also some pyjamas and slippers - so all useful stuff really.

I think that's called "manners".
Pretty sure I can't buy a guitar for a fiver.

For many years Mrs s have done what we call consumables I buy her wine perfume chocolate and bath stuff. She buys me spirits beers chocolate etc. It works well and we are not left with anything for next year so we start again.

The grown up child get me spirits or coffee beans. Youngest always buys me a batman graphic novel. Middle one got me a nice designer t shirt as well daughter got me a programmable coffee grinder.

Setting parameters works for me and mine as hobby stuff is too personal for other people to buy.

My wife can get a bit condescending with some gifts, but I have a much more upbeat persona, and I tend to say, hey someone bought you a gift, appreciate the fact that they did that for you even if it’s not your thing. I love band t-shirts (bought myself 4 for Xmas). My mother in law often gets me a T-shirt, something from a supermarket and not my sort of thing, but I put them straight on and wear them when she gives me one. Be appreciative of gifts!

On the subject of T Shirts, I also like a band T-shirt but every time someone buys me one they always get the wrong size. XL normally fit me ok but I've only ever got L or M as presents.  This is frustrating as often I actually like the T-shirt itself. I haven't kept it a secret but honestly I'd think you could tell by looking at me that I'm not getting into a Medium without extensive surgery.
