Double Cut Jnr? What are my options? 2K ish

Hi,

I’ve always fancied a DC Jnr, and I’m finally in a decent place to pick one up.

Only problem is, I only want it in Black! I’ve looked at Gibson but they are only in Red or Yellow it seems. I also prefer a bigger neck, and a nitro / acrylic finish.

I don’t want to pay more than 2K!

Does anyone have any ideas or brands I could look into?

cheers

I played a lovely yellow one made by Dave Dearnaley in Splott, Cardiff, but I can't remember the brand name he originally used - Dwight?

I'd check with Jonathan Law / Feline Guitars to see if he has a black, as he made a lovely blue one recently.

Shame you don’t want red - Coda have a K-Line in their clearance sale for a great price. Huge neck, made from actual Honduran mahogany, and I think all K-Lines are nitro. Chris is also a super underrated pickup winder.

Get an Eastman and have someone refinish it in black?

British Gordon Smith in 'Dog Hair' Black? *Not mine*

The Eastman jrs really are great. Fantastic pickups, electronics and hardware too. Fairly chunky necks.
Another vote for Eastman, but I don’t think they’ve done black ones yet. However, Maybach have and they’re very comparable.

Wow this is stunning! What’s the story with the manufacturer? I’ve not heard of them before!

K-Line has been around for quite a few years now but are known more for their takes on Strats and Teles and other Fender-originated designs than the Gibson-derived stuff. People who know think that he makes some of the best of those around - custom shop quality at minimum for what is now about high-end USA factory pricing. Over the past few years he branched out first into original pickup manufacturing (which he does incredibly well) and then into Gibson-style stuff - both flat and carve tops, but he makes the Gibson-inspired builds in far lower numbers. He started out basically putting together partcasters but now makes just about everything himself except the hardware, pots and wire so proper hands-on hand-built stuff and his prices are extremely reasonable for the level of quality on offer IMO.

You can get the model in dark walnut from the Gibson garage I think it's about £1600. you could then get a refinish
done. Other colours are available and lower prices so you could do this within your budget. Good luck.

Dwight is Clive Brown.
I played a Dearnely one that sounded good but did look and feel a bit “Home Made” for my tastes.
