Making a fairly simple drum track (I think)

Hi all, I'm looking to make or find a drum track (though I have no idea how to do it).

This is the song, and to me the drums sound very basic and basically repeats the same basic rhythm the whole way through.

Cky - To all of you

I've played around with a couple free apps and garageband on my phone but tbh I have no idea what I'm doing.

The original song for guitar is 1 and a half steps down, no idea if drums are also tuned lower lol.. told you, no idea!!

Are you looking to re-create that exact same beat tone-wise as well?  If not, I wouldn't worry about the drum tuning!

I was gonna suggest Garageband but you've already tried it.  What is it you're finding difficult on that app?

The other alternative is the Moises app.  Upload an mp3 of the song, and it splits out the instrument tracks so you can isolate them.
I’m barely able to discern any drums in that track - I do quite like CKY’s old stuff but man that is a bad production.

I use desktop GarageBand but here is how I approach it
-

1. Set BPM and have a click going.
2. Use if possible a USB keyboard interface (keyboard in the musical sense). If not, you can use a virtual one in GB, which is tied to the keys.
3. Make a MIDI track and choose a drum kit.
4. Record 4-8 bars of just hi-hat, ride or whatever else is carrying the pulse. Select the notes and quantise them to 16ths.
5. Play the rhythm of the kick and snare either simultaneously if you can hack it, or solo if not. Basically you’re recording this in loops not like a real drum performance.

thats about the size of it for a basic backbeat in GarageBand on a desk top Mac.

I too use the built-in drummer feature in Garageband. Most beats I can find no problem, but I've been struggling to get a surf rhythm (think 'Misirlou') going and failing miserably.

Cheers all

@Soulslinger yeah its pretty terrible isnt it! I quite llove the track and the lo-fi nature of it.. which is good because recording my katana via usb sounds like dog shit tbh no matter what settings I use.. must be the USB method I think. So maybe I can get a tone I'll get away with if I go for a sound akin to the original ahaha.
@Yorkie

I’m making a first assumption that you have GarageBand on desktop and if it’s the phone app, the same will be possible but I don’t know how. If you do though…you can do it without auto drummer very easily. Have you got five minutes to watch my half baked tutorial I just put together?
