Stereo rig - 2xStudio monitors vs 2xFender FR-12's
Comments
The differences will be down to cabinet / enclosure size, speaker size, and a few other factors of the room. Even FRFRs sound different, which is annoying ha ha. The "weight" is probably most likely to the speakers being on stands and the FR12 being on the floor.
I use a stereo rig, for different purposes. In a blues/power trio so I find using the Mimic to generate as slightly different signal sent to the other side, and a different but appropriate "amp" on each side really fattens the sound up. For gigging I'd go with the FR-12s or equivalent. Probably more road resilient and volume capable than studio monitors.
Oddly, I expect when going through a house PA it's summed to mono anyway to make sure sound is better for the audience. For small gigs the 2 speakers definitely help with the embigification.
If it's for home use really there's no good advice, it's dealers choice. I don't have the luxury of being able to play loud in the house. Really need to go with what you prefer the sound of / have the budget for.

I've gone with the x2 Fender FR12's at the moment...I've had one a while and maybe the FR-10's would be better but means selling the old FR-12 and getting a new FR-10...
They just sound more like the sound we're used to from an amp...cant put my finger on it but monitors with the theoretical 30hz or something low end just dont quite sit right ...given the choice of course!

This might just be an exercise in driving myself a bit batty but I'm torn between using a pair of Adam audio TV8's or a pair of Fender FR-12....to be honest this all came about as the Universal Audio stuff I use has some nice Stereo options for ping pong delay and reverb etc and one Monitor + one Fender FR12 actually sounds really good..
A pair of Adam monitors with the stands are in the ballpark of a single Fender FR-12...
If I turned into Andy Summers suddenly and all I played was heavy chorus and reverb type stuff on a bridge pickup, I'd probably be happy with the Monitors.
Clean edge of breakup, the monitors sound a bit 'thin' but it's night and day as the monitors create a better image but the Fender's probably a better tone! not as transparent but slightly coloured and more weight...
Anyone else been in this conundrum....brackets I am being an over fussy, privileged twat so sending it all back and stick with one Fender and buy more guitars might be an option!
This Stereo amp thing ever catch on or just a phase? :#
